Anand has over 11 years of experience advising stakeholders of the insurance industry on various contentious and non-contentious matters. He has particular expertise in transactional and regulatory advisory for the insurance sector.

Anand’s clients range from public stock companies, insurers, reinsurers, MGAs, financial services companies, fintech and other startups across multiple jurisdictions.  He started his career in India and is part of the India Group at Al Tamimi.

Anand is ranked as Notable Practitioner in Chambers and Partners for Fintech Practice and Insurance & Reinsurance; and is consistently recognised as one of the go-to lawyers for India related work by India Business Law Journal. Recent Experience

  • Acted as the lead counsel for Buyer on the acquisition of a UAE insurance company, being involved in negotiating the term sheet, due diligence for the target, transactional support, negotiating the SPA, structuring of the holding group, licensing, and approvals from the regulators, until the rebranding of the entity. Post the transaction also advised them on the Corporate Governance framework under UAE Laws and setting up of the internal committees of the insurance company.
  • Acting for a global financial services consultancy on its acquisition of an insurance brokerage in the UAE. This includes identifying the target, regulatory due diligence, drafting of the sale documents, negotiation and licensing/registrations following the acquisition and rebranding.
  • Advising a number of insurance stakeholders on the applicability and implementation of Electronic Insurance Regulation, including making application and getting approvals from the UAE Central Bank.
  • Advised a number of IPMI providers on their market entry, across Middle East, product strategy, compliance requirements, distribution arrangements and fronting arrangement with local cedants.
  • Counsel to a number of third-party administrators (TPAs) based in UAE to assist them with their day-to-day arrangements, including regulatory advice, vendor agreements, hospital agreements, payer agreements and even government contracts.
  • Advising a Cyprus based start-up insurance entity on the regulatory requirements and structures in the DIFC. Assisting the entity with end-to-end licensing with the DFSA as a Category 4 entity and set-up in the DIFC, and post set-up support.
